ALEXANDER ESGUERRA PAINTS WITH SEX
Hailing from a lineage of designers and fine artists, Alexander Esguerra, graduate of Parsons the New School for Design, has had a gift for the arts since a young age. Esguerra has nurtured his creative talents in a dynamic career in graphic, fashion, illustration, interior, and product design. In his most recent pursuit, Love & Paint, Esguerra has expanded his artistic endeavor to the realm of experiential art.
Esguerra is immersed in his new venture, Love & Paint. Through this endeavor, he aims to destabilize preconceived prejudices and taboos surrounding sexuality.
Regardless of race, gender, culture, or sexual identity, sex is the great equalizer - the common source of birth, pleasure and union. While each sexual encounter is truly inimitable, the experience itself is inherently universal.
Alexander Esguerra's Love & Paint represents a cultural examination and celebration of the “Literal Expressionism” that exists within everyone. Bringing together numerous partners from around New York and Los Angeles, the exhibit transforms their manifestation of affection, seduction, or pleasure into art – leaving a lasting mark that represents this moment of self-actualization. The exhibit sets out to break down the taboo that is sex, by showing it for what it is – an act of beauty and love.
Each couple, covered in paint, unites on a blank canvas – creating the art that will be displayed for sale at his shows. The couples’ bodies are the literal brushes within their act of connection.

SPOT OF CULTURE: SEX SOCIETY
This Weeks Spot of Culture with Barika and Politico Pete comes in two parts as we reflect of how society weighs sex and connects us to each other.
Politico Pete defines the fine line between love and politics where sex, the law are all wrapped in bed with gender politics. And, Barika will interview John Baku who is created a social network site linking all the fetishes and people under the sun to each other.
FIFTY SHADES OF LOVE: FALLING IN LOVE IN A BROTHEL
This was the era when drugs were hip, rock ‘n’ roll was exploding, Baby Boomer hormone levels were jumping off the charts and sex didn’t kill you. LAURA MEETS JEFFREY, a shameless, hilarious, erotic cyclone, is the memoir of two unquenchable libidomaniacs who missed none of it.
Barika interview author Jeffrey Michelson on his dual-written memoir the documents the excesses and dangers of the wild days just before the door slammed shut on sexual liberation’s primetime.
About the Book
Laura is a witty lingerie model, artist, and a famous film director’s ex-lover. Jeffrey is a media
wizard who worked for John & Yoko, Apple Records and The Rolling Stones. He then created
Puritan, the successful and literate hardcore sex magazine. On weekends he boxes withRyan O’Neal and José Torres. In the demimonde of orgies, BDSM, glory holes, call girls, porn stars, coke dealers, Timothy Leary, Jerzy Kosinski, Al Goldstein, and horny White House speechwriters, Laura and Jeffrey transform into a sexual tag team.
Norman Mailer guided this book and bequeathed the Foreword. “Ethics and Pornography,” his 1980 interview with Michelson and Bradley, was one of his favorites of the more than 600 he gave, and it’s a bonus chapter in this book. Legs McNeil, author of Please Kill Me, the Oral History of Punk, wrote the Introduction.

Pump up the Volume
One of Barika’s favorite films in the 90’s was Christian Slater’s portrayal of a pirate radio shock jock who challenged the “man” in the Pump up the Volume. While looking for music from the film’s soundtrack for the May Day: Artist Fury program, Barika came across something that stopped her in her tracks. Pump Up the Volume -- THE MUSICAL! Yep, a musical version of the teen-agnst and the hip radio lover’s film fav. Barika’s invited lyrist Jeremy Desmon to the Artsy Fartsy Show to chat about the adaptation of the film to the musical stage.
JEREMY DESMON is a composer, lyricist and bookwriter who received the 2007 Kleban Award for excellence in Musical Theatre Bookwriting. He is also a recipient of the Dramatists Guild's Jonathan Larson Fellowship.
